Steffphon Pettigrew through the midway point of the 2006/07 Kentucky high school hoops season has done everything expected of him and more. The basketball court's on which Pettigrew have played on have been a proving ground for this strong-willed young talent. Questions of reffering to his ability to play at the high-major level with a program such as the University of Kentucky has chased Pettigrew for over a year now. Those questions never caught up to Pettigrew as he has now proven naysayers wrong in every aspect that the game allows.

Pettigrew stands stoutly at 6-5, has played the wing, the post, and even at the top of the key while leading an undenialably short-handed Elizabethtown team to a 12 win and 9 loss season. Averaging an astounding 35 points and 15 boards per game. The senior leads the state in both categories, not out of selfishness, but out of the mere fact that without those numbers the Panthers would not be competitive in their games. Quick, agile, strong as a bull, Pettigrew possesses a shooting touch that is consistent from 12 feet in and has shown the ability to hit from beyond the arc.

A solid passer, Pettigrew only needs to add some ballhandling skills which means developing use of his left hand for crossover moves and driving the lane. His footwork and strength keys his ability to hit the boards against anyone. Pettigrew is a force when it comes to rebounding, whether its on the offensive or defensive end.

The season is long from over. And with Elizabethtown winning over 5th Region favorites recently, Pettigrew and the Panthers just may be looking at a trip to Kentucky's Sweet 16 tourney in March. And should that happen, look for Pettigrew to continue to outrun the naysayers questions and use Rupp Arena's floors as yet another proving ground for his game.
